The Italian cargo vessel Repubblica Di Genova has been towed to a new location to undergo extensive repairs. The Grimaldi owned roro-ship
capsized earlier this year at the Verrebroekdok on the left bank. During the early hours of last Sunday it was towed to the Hansadok, a drydock on the right bank. There, the 216 meter ship will be repaired by
Antwerp Shiprepair.
The operation started at about 5.30 in the morning and had to be carried out with great precision. The vessel had to be piloted trough two narrow locks, the Kallosluis and the Boudewijnsluis. Ahead of schedule the operation finished at 9 o'clock.
