One of the recurring topics during last weeks 2nd Annual Offshore Wind Construction, Installation & Commissioning Conference was what type of vessel would satisfy the future needs of renewable wind farm developers.
As wind farms are moving offshore they will require vessels able to work in deeper waters, further away from land and less sensitive to weather conditions.
Some seemed self-assured with the idea that todays vessels could be converted (at a relatively low cost) as opposed to spending millions on ‘new’ vessel designs.
Others argued that the industry needs innovation rather than rely on outdated methods and equipment. New designs with bigger intake volumes would be the future.
A last group of people was convinced that we should be looking at the offshore oil&gas market and tap in to that know-how.
We would love to hear how you think about this.
