Newly Formed Global Response Maritime Set To Salvage Remains MSC Napoli
7 January 2009
A new salvage company, named Global Response Maritime, has been contracted to salvage the remains of the stranded MSC Napoli.
GR Maritime is founded by two well known maritime figures, Klaas J. Reinigert (former CEO SMIT TAK and Paul Glerum, who made the headlines when he was taken hostage in Iran in 1997).
The Napoli will be the first job for GR Maritime. The ship grounded January last year in Lyme Bay, on the English Southcoast. SMIT removed all the containers and remaining bunkers. The forward section was then towed away for scrapping.
GR Maritime is planning to disassemble the aft section on site and transport the scrap to Holland.
