Earlier today a container ship ran aground on the Western Scheldt due to engine problems. A first attempt to refloat the 363 meters long and 46 meters wide MSC Luciana failed.
The ship is owned by the Italian / Swiss container shipping line MSC and was en route from Antwerp to Felixstowe. The stranded vessel is currenlty not disrupting shipping traffic to and from Antwerp.
Towage company Multraship from Terneuzen wants to attempt to refloat the Luciana again ath 17:20. Multraship and URS Antwerp have sent nine tugs to assist the Luciana.
