Boskalis to fund Smit bid with cash, debt [source: Reuters]: Dutch dredger Boskalis Westminster NV intends to fund its planned 1.1 billion euro ($1.5 billion) offer for Smit Internationale with cash and debt, it said on Thursday, allaying market fears of a share issue. "We have indicated that it will not be funded through an issue of new shares. It will be through available cash on the balance sheet and new debt," said spokesman Martijn Schuttevaer.

Somali pirate source: deal near on Ukraine ship [source: Reuters]: An onshore associate of Somali pirates holding a Ukrainian ship with tanks and other weaponry on board said on Wednesday an $8 million ransom deal was in the offing which may enable the boat to be freed within days. "A boat will carry the money from Djibouti and pirates are expected to release the ship in the coming two nights," a business partner of the pirates, who identified himself only as Farah, told Reuters.

Oil falls back under $90 [source: INQUIRER.net]: World oil prices fell back under $90 on Wednesday as traders fretted over the global financial crisis and the resultant fall in energy demand, dealers said. New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in November, was down 40 cents at $89.66 a barrel after climbing $2.25 to $90.06 at the close of trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Tuesday.
