As part of a test case to allow bigger ships onto the Western Scheldt the containervessel MSC Beatrice will be calling Antwerp, April 7, 2009. During transit the vessel will be closely monitored by Dutch and Belgian authorities.
Recent studies have shown that vessels upto 400 meters (and with a draft of 14,5 meter) can navigate these waters safely.
The current size limit for vessels is 360 meter.
