The Tender Backhoe
January 17th, 2008As part of Scenofest 2007 a dancer circles the crowd on a JCB Digger.
The driver Eric Lamy, who operates the vehicle, plays a major part in the performance. He uses the boom of the backhoe as a human arm that grasps, cuddles but also rejects. According to dancer Dominique Boivin, the turning motion of the machine has something of the circus about it. Moreover, he compares the backhoe to a coarse and ponderous characterization Frankenstein of the Boris Krloff film ‘Frankenstein’.
